IMPROVE YOUR WATER – IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH
by Steven Sonmore, L.Ac.
Your body is more than 70% water, and that water controls virtually
every aspect of your health. You have no doubt heard that you need
to drink plenty of water to be healthy, but the quality of the
water you drink is equally as important. If the water you drink
is less than pure, your health will suffer. This includes more
than just the water you drink. It includes the water you use for
cooking. It even includes the water you use for washing!
In fact, your brain and heart are both 75% water, and your blood
is 83% water. Most of your body’s systems are dependent upon
the water you drink. Dehydration is believed to be the cause of
many ailments, and this dehydration is often chronic and remains
undetected. Drinking sodas, coffee, and juice all day will not
prevent dehydration. All of these liquids are largely treated as
food by your body. So, only pure, clean water can truly be utilized
to keep your body healthy.
The Problem with Tap Water
Even though cities have standards for tap water, these standards
are usually low. They also fail to deal with the contamination
from old lead pipes in many water systems. Because of the cost
and time required to upgrade these old pipes, standards have to
remain lower than they should.
The Problem with Bottled Water
Bottled water is often not much better than tap water. This has
been shown in studies done by the Natural Resources Defense Council
(NRDC) and others. And as the world becomes more and more polluted,
spring water sources become more and more contaminated.
The NRDC study was conducted over a four-year period and found
levels of contaminants in at least one-third of the bottled
water tested that are higher than both industry and governmental
standards. The plastic bottles also contaminate the water within
them, and the longer the bottles sit on the shelf, the more likely
they are to breed bacteria. Furthermore, regulations to prevent
contamination of bottled water were found by NRDC to be inadequate.
Bottled water is not required to be tested for many parasites,
and, unlike tap water, it is allowed to contain a certain amount
of E. coli.
In fact, the NRDC study found that some bottled water claiming
to be from a spring was actually pumped from “an industrial
parking lot next to a hazardous waste site.”
The Solution
The only way to ensure that your water is clean and healthy
is to purchase a filter that has been proven to remove harmful
contaminants, while leaving the healthy minerals that you
need. The best such filter that I have found is made by Multi-Pure.
My own health, and the health of my clients, has improved
significantly after drinking filtered water from one of Multi-Pure’s
Drinking Water Systems.
